A note on the author
J. R. Sparrow was born in England and is a journalist, writer and editor. As a newspaper reporter, he moved from the UK to the Netherlands and was a correspondent and stringer for British and American publications.
Based in Amsterdam and Brussels, he edited a number of travel-related publications and started his own production company and communications consultancy. In 1994, he documented the Rwandan genocide for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for whom he later became communications manager in East and Central Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, and East Asia.
Broken heart of Africa is his first novel and draws on his personal experience of Rwanda and the former Zaire before, during and after the genocide. Today he lives in Amsterdam and Norfolk, England.
